Basically they are the same. I have abridged some parts to make it less offensive to some in the Chinese version.  
Who is Karoio?  
The English version was basically an unedited and un-proof read draft and contains a lot of mistakes, including some names who have been changed but I forget to follow up with subsequent chapters.

As for Hitomi, sorry, that is all left to your imagination.  She is very pretty of course, being the Yamabuki of Satomi.  
Aniue is not a person, it is a form of address that younger brothers and sisters address their elder brother.  Katsuo is tall and strong like a real samurai.  

I have never learned translation officially.  So, my translation is very amateurish. You are right to say that the English version is more natural as they come straight from my head.
I think Katsuo is good lookng but Hitomi loved him not only because of that.  There was no mention how he really looked like in the novel as I used first person to tell the story, which is difficult (Although not impossible) to describe one's appearance (I just do not like to do that anyway.  Readers can imagine.)

The English text needs careful proof reading before it can be considered for publishing.

Kaori was killed in the first battle.
I think it is also in the Chinese text.

The story gets much better after Chapter 5 of Book 1, all writers need a run-in time before the story can proceed naturally.

The chapters I like best are: chapter 8 of Book 2, chapter 4 of Book 3 and the final three chapters of Book 3 (not yet posted).  The Epilogue (not yet posted) is also quite good. and touching
